CBDC Presentation

Earlier this month I gave a presentation at my local community center on Central Bank Digital Currencies(CBDCs). If you have an interest in the topic you can watch the recording on my personal video server instance of PeerTube logoPeerTube. Also viewable on Youtube logoYoutube. If you take the time to view the talk feel free to reference the slides directly, CBDC_Presentation.pdf.

Description

While I have covered the topic in a previous blog post, CBDCs: The future of fiat money and a detailed explanation of why they are a very bad idea, I take this as an opportunity to move past the basics. I begin by discussing the development of CBDCs globally and then bring it home to discuss what CBDCs mean for us here in the United States. I give an overview of our monetary system so that my audience can better understand the story of how we got to the roll out of CBDCs. I then unfold this financial story by taking them through a forensic analysis of our monetary systems' historical record of deposits. Credit to this goes to John Titus. I then describe the policy change that strategically broke our monetary system and discuss who was behind this financial take over, and how the very fact that they got away with it all but ensures the unfortunate rollout of CBDCs here in the very near future.

Note

Because this presentation was given to an audience I moved through the slides rather slowly. In addition, it shows that I am out of practice when it comes to speaking publicly. I used a lot of verbal filler. While I think the people in attendence got a lot of value out of the talk I do not think it transfers well to video and for that reason I plan to make an online specific version of the talk in the near future.
